        The Problem

An estimated 6 million people in the U.S. are chronically infected with viral  hepatitis B and C, although many still remain undiagnosed. Further, many of these patients are unaware that they are at risk for developing liver cancer. Patients are usually asymptomatic and both patients and health professionals can be unaware of hepatitis infections as well as liver cancer because the liver is
a non-complaining organ.

    The Target Audience

The summit consists of a one
full day of professional training
for health intermediaries
including: nurses, nurse
practitioners, physician assistants, medical technicians,
public health staff, HIV case
managers, counselors and others working in private practice, tertiary academic centers community hospitals and clinics at-risk groups’ service providers private practices, and public health professionals.

    The Ultimate Goal

The conference will educate and empower health care
professionals to:

  • raise awareness of hepatitis and liver cancer,

  • identify at-risk patients,
  • promote screening for hepatitis and liver cancer,
  • reinforce best practices in patient safety,
  • implement case management strategies,
  • provide self-help tools and techniques of communicating to help individuals understand their illness and the importance of the liver,
  • improve compliance with treatment regimens,
  • encourage responsibility for personal healthcare management, and
  • understand HIV/HBV/HCV co-infection issues
